Default Colors (DS paint package)

Dock drew a totally bog-standard oekaki picture, you say to yourself.

You'd be partially correct, except that I drew this particular picture on a Nintendo DS!) There's a cool piece of software called Colors' that you can download if you have a homebrew cartridge. This software is a very basic art package, but the results are pretty nice. It even supports pressure sensitivity, which you don't usually see on the DS. It also allows you to play-back your drawing at a higher resolution using a PC app, and even save out AVI files of your drawing.

You can see the progress of my artwork here:

I wouldn't mind doodling on this this in the future. It's certainly better than pictochat! XD

Apparently developers are discouraged from using the pressure sensitivity on the DS, but the data is there and it works fine

Here's another one I did this morning. It's more difficult to use the controls when holding the DS in portrait position, but it still works okay.

Reviving this thread from the dead...

Dock, how easy is it to homebrew-enable your DS? I'm thinking of trying to get one and do this, but I don't want to irrevocably damage it or anything.

I've been kind of obsessed with the idea of Colors since I saw this thread way back in December.

happy

That's good~I have been used the NDS to draw some picture. However, that's very difficult to use a small pen to draw some like yours. You are worthy of my adoration.

OMGosh! Thanks for reviving this Karasu no Kazu! This has made me ridiculously excited!

I just discovered homebrew a couple months back and I was wondering if there was a better paint package available than the one on ds organize.

It's easy to homebrew enable the DS - you just need an R4 cartridge

Yeah I tried this a while ago (well, during development). It's not very good, unfortunately. It's quite frustrating to work with, and essentially works principally as a colouring book with cheap and partially broken felt tip pens.

Tajio,

Homebrew non-profit programs = Good.
Raping Nintendo DS games for free = Bad.

Thought I'd post something I did in colors recently. I really like this program I've started carrying my ds around to do life sketching. I'd like to see it with some layers, but I seriously can't complain - this is awesome for shareware!

(Animated version of sketch is here)

Awesome stuff guys!
Very impressive, you all must have alot of patience!

I tried COLORS a while ago, but my DS touch screen is a bit wonky and desensitive so sometimes when I'm drawing it randomly scribbles all over my picture T^T; Frustrating to say the least, I rarely use this program anymore, not until my touch screen is fixed...But the pressure and opacity sensitivity is quite impressive I must say *v*)
