I'm trying to learn it at the moment. Maybe if everybody who's going to ame has a go at learning it we could all do a big group one!?

I actually attempted to do it at Ame 07, and did pretty well I'm not sure if I can really afford to go to Ame 08 as well though, since I'm going to Tokonatsu too.

haha XD

I've done this in public/Re:cons/expo quite a few times XD. My friend has it on his phone and once you know it, you can't NOT dance when it's playing!

I did it a few times outside expo too *The Melancholy of Haruhi Fujioka* though . My friend videoed the long ver. (with lots of sarcasm at us NOT KNOWING it was the long ver. XD) http://youtube.com/watch?v=5Jo9vXbK__M Emzileh-chan's there as well as Misa .

@Darth
There's lots of organised Hare Hare Yukai dance meets at expo (as well as teh cosplay rave ), they organise them on the forums ^_^!

However, I think this is waaaay too cool!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDSGmx8c2AM

(yeah... I know the Algorithm march as well XD)

It'd be great if a group started a big long line of people doing the Algorithm March Especially with added ninja!

And the Hare Hare Yukai never gets old, no matter how many times I see it

it makes me wonder how much longer I can go without learning this dance.

I believe this dance has been great advertising for the series. makes me wonder how popular it would be without the dance.

You're very right I can't think how well the dance got the show popular in Asia and North America, not to mention in Europe. Without the dance, I think the show would have to work really hard in getting itself a fanbase like the one it has now.

As for the dance itself, well, I'm rather a fast learner so, with a little help with youtube, I managed to make a total idiot of myself at Ame...and I don't regret it one bit

Actually I found the series without knowing about the dance. I was watching the ending and thinking 'man, how awesome would it be to get a big group of friends doing that dance!?' and then a few weeks later, I discovered that I had been far from the only one to think that and that there are huge haruhi dance groups everywhere!

happy Haruhi Megaman Dance Funny Video - Hare Hare Yukai Style

No one is immune from the Haruhi Dance especially when its the popular Hare Hare Yukai song. Even classic Mega Man characters are doing it, complete with NES sound. All in 8 bit technology characters, sounds and backgrounds!

I have to admit Megaman and his characters did a good job in replicating the dance in full and do the moves. I have to also say this is a good tribute to Capcom's Megaman/Rockman who celebrates his 20th anniversary this year!

I did not make it but is loaded on my Youtube channel just for some viewing pleasure. But I have to give full credit for the person who made it! Link below:

I will put in a later posting thread who are the different characters in the video as I cannot remember every single character in the video.

For people who do not know the song above...well it is called Hare Hare Yukai which is sung by by Aya Hirano , Minori Chihara, and Yuko Goto. This is taken from the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The very popular animated choreography accompanying the song, originally broadcast as part of the closing credits. This became an Internet meme which inspired many parodies and fanmade videos on the Internet.

You have probably either seen the video, heard of the video and song or have been it done many times at different Expos e.g. I saw people this dance at the London MCM Expo in May 2007 when I went to Excel London!

Anyway link below for the original dance from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya:

I tried to do the haruhi dance in front of the bath room mirror with no music...i got up til the bit where the camera switches the the big group shot with the boys and they go at like twice the speed

I guess this just proves the massive cult status of the dance :

Default How to do Hare Hare Yukai Dance instruction videos

As request by Volker -

Hare Hare Yukai Dance instruction videos - How to do the Dance!

Here are some videos of how to do the Hare Hare Yukai Dance. To make it easier I have sectioned each link separately with the descriptions of each video. As always most of the videos will be linked after from Youtube!

Dance with sketches of full dance steps Video 1

This video Full Hare Hare Yukai ED dance step via drawing and sketches, a little tricky in my view to learn but breaks down the different stages.

Hare Hare Yukai ED -Full dance steps-

Hare Hare Yukai Full Dance Training Video 2 with different speeds

A training video to the full animated dance for "Hare Hare Yukai", the ending theme of the show. It plays back at 50%, 75%, then 100% speed. Very funny listening the song in slower speed though!

Hare Hare Yukai Full Dance Training Video

Hare Hare Yukai : Super-Full Dance Reference - Video 3

A video I made after careful, careful analysis of the reference sketches. The sketches are from the official storyboard put together by Kyoto Animation as reference from the dance.

Hare Hare Yukai : Super-Full Dance Reference Video

Hare Hare Yukai Instructions Dance Video 4

This is a little instruction video of the Hare Hare dance I made to help me, and it's kinda working! It also contains what you need to do each stage for each part of the dance! It splits the dance into three parts....

Ps. When it says "Point straight up with the left arm, then bring the left arm across the face" It should be the right...just a note on the video to warn you of the instructions.

There are lots of others but I think 4 will be enough to get you going and to practice on.

SOME TIPS (From my friends who can do the dance)

Always learn it in stages and learn each part of the dance separately, its quicker and easier to learn it this way.

If you do not know an area of the dance sequence, practice it

Do it without the song playing in the background and learn the routine. Then increase the speed of the dance and then when you are ready play the music. When playing the music just practice till you get it in time with the music sequence. Keep doing it until you are a master!

Finally just practice....it takes time but worth it!

So how to download the videos from Youtube to computer for keeping and practising!

If you download Youtube videos to PC there are a number of free websites to try these websites....just a note...use AVI/WMV for Windows and MOV if you have Quicktime or a Mac.

Vixy

http://www.vixy.net

Convert youtube

http://convertyoutube.com/

Flvix

http://www.flvix.com/

It does not work first time, so keep trying until you get it to convert!

Good luck and hope it helps anyone who wants to do the dance!

A last note...look at my original thread with the Megaman Haruhi dance, on the last bit it has the full dance without the credits on Youtube!
