Aloha! This is an early announcement for the Japanex London Art Contest (July 21-22) to give everyone time to get drawing. The new theme for Pre-Made categories is Japanese Culture (surprise
!) As always, we have fab prizes from Letraset and E-frontier lined up. This contest is open to all visitors of JapanEx London, and entries must be submitted in person at the Sweatdrop table. Please read the rules below carefully:1) All pre-made pieces should be done to the theme of Japanese Culture. We're looking for originality in subject matter and depiction. Entries may take the form of a single illustration, or short comic (no more than 3 pages due to display space). Any media is allowed, though please remember that we are unable to return images. 2) The Artist Alley category will not be themed, and you're free to draw anything you like at the event. However please use the special stamped paper for your entry (they will be distributed all around Artist Alley). Alternatively, ask a member of Sweatdrop to stamp your paper if you brought a pad from home. This way, we know that entries were actually created on that day. 3) We've also introduced a new Young Star Award for artists aged 12 and under. Over past years we've seen an increase in entries by younger artists and we'd like to reward their effort with a special prize. From all the entries we get (pre-made or AA) we'll select one young artist who deserves this recognition. 4) Please fill out the entry forms in full. We do not use the information for any purpose other than contacting the winners. A valid email address is most important so please put down the one that you check most often. 5) The categories this year are: 16 and Over - Best Pre-Made Piece (Theme: Japanese Culture) 16 and Over - Best Artist Alley Piece Under 16 - Best Pre-Made Piece (Theme: Japanese Culture) Under 16 - Best Artist Alley Piece Young Star Award (12 and under) 6) Post any questions and queries in this thread. If you want an urgent reply, please look at this thread from a previous competition...many questions regarding rules, format, content and judging criteria have already been answered. Prizes 16 and Over winners (Premade and Artist Alley) will receive the following: - Manga Studio EX (www.e-frontier.com) The ultimate manga-creation software used by many professional Tokyopop mangakas and Sweatdrop artists. - Letraset Manga Pack (www.letraset.com) Fantastic set of art supplies containing: TRIA set, x1 Digital Tones, x1 Screen Tones, Comic Pad, Comic Fonts x1, Single Fine Liner Under 16 winners (Premade and Artist Alley) will receive the following: - Manga Studio Debut (www.e-frontier.com) This is an excellent introduction to the world of digital screentoning. As your skills grow, you can easily upgrade to EX through the e-frontier website. - Letraset Manga Pack (www.letraset.com) Fantastic set of art supplies containing: TRIA set, x1 Digital Tones, x1 Screen Tones, Comic Pad, Comic Fonts x1, Single Fine Liner The winner of the Young Star Award will receive: - Manga Pack (www.letraset.com) A pack of art supplies and manga for motivation and inspiration to keep on drawing!

waw good luck!!!
>.< Ive been planning my entry since the japan ex site updated with the rules. Im still researching things ... Im pratically making a whole scrap book just for one image ... its getting quite rediculas and obsessive the amount of research thats going into it ... but hopefully it will all be worth it ... even if I dont win anything or get commended or whatever .... I really do think this picture will be worth drawing ... I think it will be the best thing Ive ever drawn ... well ... once I finally get round to drawing it .... >.< but yeah .... Im having a lot of fun doing the research ... learning lots. this time its not as simple as UK culture .... Id say "cause I dont know a lot about japan" ... but what I really mean ... its very hard to draw a picture about a culture without being hugely stereotypical .... as well as trying to be original and not just drawing "woman in kimono" or "samurai with sword infront of trad. building" ... so yeah ...... I gues Ive set myself a few challanges. hopefully will be worth while. >.<

Yes you may, but you probably won't be able to erase the pencil lines after inking if you photocopied it? Pencil sketches don't turn out well on photocopiers so you may have to scan it instead

1) Yes, you can enter both.
2) At the last expo pencils and markers were provided, but if you feel comfortable with your own equipment feel free to bring your own. |

Just a quick note to say that there will be a teeny delay to the contest results/winner notification due to logistical issues of several admins moving house right now
. There were some really fantastic entries and we were very lucky to get a last minute sponsor who spontaneously selected 5 entries to receive a special gift (these are seperate to the main prizes and commendations, though a few images are represented in both). So please be patient for a few more days...Sweatdrop is doing all it can to get you the results as soon as possible ! A big thanks to everyone who took part...keep on drawing!!
