news London Expo Art Competition!

Riding the excitement of the London Expo thread, we hereby present this year's Manga Art Competition! This thread is open for any discussion or questions regarding the contest. There are some seriously good prizes up for grabs, so book your tickets now via the Expo website if you fancy a piece of the action !

Manga Art Competition
London MCM Expo May 27-28

Sweatdrop Studios is proud to present the May 2006 London Expo Manga Competition (www.londonexpo.com). Thanks to our sponsors Letraset, Wacom, ImagineFX, E-Frontier and Tokyopop we have compiled some fantastic prize packages containing everthing a manga artist dreams of! The categories this year are as follows:

16 and Over - Best Original Piece
16 and Over - Best Fanart Piece

Under 16 - Best Original Piece
Under 16 - Best Fanart Piece

ImagineFX Award - CG artwork only

Prizes:
(A picture's worth a thousand words)

See next post for a detailed breakdown of the prize list.

Entry Rules:
As with previous years, you may create your entry at home or draw something in Artists Alley during the event (paper and art supplies will be provided). We always take these factors into account when judging so you don’t have to worry about a piece looking too sketchy. However, if you want to be eligible for the ImagineFX award (and have a chance of winning the Wacom tablet), then you must create a CG piece at home.

Submission:
Entries must be submitted in person at London Expo. Please hand in pictures at the Sweatdrop table in Artists Alley. We will be accepting entries throughout the entire duration of London Expo and the winners will be announced on the Sweatdrop website immediately after the event. Unfortunately we cannot accept anything by post or email. This competition is run in conjunction with London Expo and its sponsors, so any entrants are also expected to be part of this event ^_^. We cannot guarantee that entries will be returned so print-outs or photocopies are highly recommended.

The Small Print:
You may not enter the same category twice (e.g. two fanarts) but you are welcome to enter with one fan art and one original piece. Entries that are blatantly traced or copied from existing artwork will be disqualified. We may require proof of age from winners in the under-16 category (we will contact you after the competition). Sweatdrop reserves the right to disqualify anyone suspected of cheating.

Here's the exact list of prizes. The main prize packages are worth £300 each, and the ImagineFX Award is worth close to £500! Bear in mind that to qualify for the ImagineFX Award your entry must be CG, and thus pre-made. You have a little over a month to create something great...perhap even pick up the current issue of ImagineFX for some inspiration?

Prize Package for the 4 Main Categories:

- Every single product from Letraset’s manga drawing range. These include Tria Marker sets, manual screentone, digital screentone, resource CDs, project kits and comic layout paper.

- A year-long subscription to ImagineFX, the only high-end digital art magazine specializing in fantasy, sci-fi and manga art

- A copy of Manga Studio, a brand new software for creating manga from scratch on your computer. It contains thousands of screentone designs and is compatible with Mac and PC.

- Manga goodies from Tokyopop.

Prize Package for the ImagineFX Award

- The amazing Wacom Intuos3 A5 Wide graphics tablet. Worth £299, this is the ultimate digital accessory used by professional artists worldwide.

- Your winning image and a short profile published in ImagineFX. It is so difficult for manga artists to get widespread mainstream exposure…this could be your very chance to break into the industry!

- A year-long subscription to ImagineFX.

- Manga Studio software (perfect to use with your new Intuos Wide!)

- Digital manga products from Letraset’s new range.

Runner Up Prizes
We also have some surprises for one runner-up in each category. There really are many chances to win something this year...happy drawing !

All previous winners are welcome to enter again. So long as you don't enter the same piece! lol ^_^

This may sound like a silly question, but I'm 16 so do I go into the Under 16 category or Over 16 category?

Sorry! My mistake for bad wording...it's supposed to mean 16 and over so you'll be in the older category !

The judging is done by the entire group (or rather, every Swetadrop member present at Expo), so you can rest assured that the winners will have the majority approval of 10-20 people, and not a single personal opinion . Last year we really tussled with some images, with votes split almost 50-50...which is why we have runner-up prizes this year for anyone that just missed the cut.

No way, those are mine, y'hear?

Before I get cracking, is it legal to draw sketches to take in with you? Ones that you'll use for lining, I mean? I need to stack up on tone and ProMarkers while I'm there, too.

As much as I would LOVE to get my hands on that graphic tablet *drools over it* and the other prizes for the CG category, I don't think I stand a chance at winning it, so I might not try that one

I'm speaking from seeing the standard of last year's CG category winner...

*starts work on Original Piece entry*
