A+I Show - Workshops + Events Information
Conventions:- Manga – A history and overview of the Japanese art form.
UK Manga Studio, Sweatdrop, invite you to delve into the history and diversity of this cultural phenomenon. The session will focus on aspects such as a comparison of key artists, themes and genres and will also track a little of the industry’s long but steady journey to the west.
Here Sweatdrop will take you through the building blocks of Manga character design. From basic theory such as figure work and spacing right through to adorning your character with clothes and accessories to bring them out of the page. A perfect starter for any budding Manga artists or appreciators.
In the second instalment of ‘Creating the style’, Sweatdrop studios will take you through the more advanced aspects of character building. Here focus will shift to the more detailed elements of design such as facial spacing, aesthetic accessorising and a comparison of stylistic devices within Manga. Great for experienced Manga artists and beginners alike!
- Sequential Art – From concept to creation
With a character or two under your proverbial belt, it’s time to transport your character from the world of pin-up art to the world of sequential art. This session will take you through the process of creating a Manga comic for print; from concept and storyboarding through to preparing your piece for print.
Workshops:
- Kids Manga Workshops – Hands-on workshop for younger artists.
Calling all budding young comic artists! This is a practical, hands-on workshop taking you right through the process of building a character. You’ll first practice the stages of design by recreating an existing character, and then move onto designing your very own Manga style character from scratch!
- Drawing a character – Basic and hands-on.
This is a practical workshop, in which Sweatdrop Studios will guide you through the character creation process from start to finish. No matter what your level of experience, you’ll walk out of the workshop with a fully created character of your own design and hopefully the motivation and skills to create more!
- One-page comic drawing session.
Perfect for all stages of Manga artists, or anyone who simply fancies having a go. In this session you will be taken step by step through the creation of a one-page, four-panel comic. A practical, useful and enjoyable hands-on workshop whatever your artistic leaning!
Seminars:
Once you have created your comic, you want the world to see it. Printing and selling your own comic can be far easier than you imagine. Here, Sweatdrop Studios will offer advice and suggestions for taking your artwork from page to print.
- Inking – The power to change a piece
One of the most distinguishable features of Japanese Manga is the variety and application of inking styles throughout the genre. In this seminar you will be shown the different effects that can be created through use of inking, from traditional dip-pens to modern day fine liners.
