Default SIGNING AT THE A& I

hi just wondering if you were going to be signing some of your art work at the a & i. i was going to go to the lecture on day 1 about the history of manga but to have something signed would be the icing on the cake

I have a feeling that there won't be a problem. Quite a few SD members will be there exhibiting, demonstrating, presenting so it will be easy to grab us! We should have some nice colour posters and prints to sell there too!

Default Kids workshops -- how old is a kid?

hiya Emma - i'm really looking forward to the manga workshops even though i am a doddery old (no, make that ~ancient~) person. i do know some cool young people who would love to come to the workshops. they're like 14 and 16 ... should they do the kids' workshop or would they get more out of, say, the Sequential Art workshop or maybe the One Page Comic workshop, both on Sunday?

Hi there!

I'm so glad you're looking forward to it - so are we!! And it's so nice being able to chat to a few of the people we'll be meeting before hand! and piffle to the ancient!! ^_~

14 and 16 year-olds...hmmmm.

A lot of which workshop we'd recommend would depend on the artistic background of the attendees as well as their age -
For instance, the kids workshop techincally is aimed at ages up to about 15....but then, if they have prior knowledge of manga art, they may prefer something more in depth.
The kids workshop will basically be a hands-on 'let's draw a character' session. But whereas the adult 'drawing a character' will most likely build on pre-existing basic knowledge, the kids one will start from scratch and may focus on far simpler characters.
The 'drawing a character' workshop will be more demonstrative of different genres of character creation. ^_^

The one page comic workshop will be good fun as you will literally be given a sheet with pre-drawn frames and be shows ideas on filling that sheet in to make a one page comic.
However, the sequential art workshop will be idea for anyone looking to print their own comic...so taking ideas forward and getting them into print.

I think it's tricky to recommend as it's all down to what they want to take away from the show and what level they are at.....hopefully I've given you an idea^_^

The workshops are designed (hopefully) to be accessable to anyone, but to really be able to help people at different stages of comic creation whether it be just starting out or already thinking about printing.
Ideally of course, you should go to all of them *grin*

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! ^_^

And Freefall - indeed! Looking forward to meeting you! ^_^

I've been meaning to congratulate you guys on this. (I did manage to give my congrats to Dock in person at one of the LACs though).
I've been a subscriber to A&I mag for years and a little while back saw Dock's 'How to Draw Manga' in one of the issues and then saw SD was going to be at this year's Exhibition, and thought how great it was.

A really big well done to you all!

PS. I don't think A&I is all that bad! Depends on your point of view I guess.

I hope you guys have a great time at the comic expo, wish I could come see you guys but i'll be demoing with Letraset at the other comic expo in bristol on the same days! But I'm looking forward to A&I, I'll be doing some demos and a workshop but I plan to escape at some point and come say hi and pick up some of your work! I've been meaning to buy some sweatdrop titles since Amecon but just been crazy busy! But anyway, have a great time and I look forward to seeing you guys and your workshops! Cheers!

Xan, the event is also held on the Thursday and Friday if you're available then. Sorry to hear you're busy over the weekend, it would be a shame to miss you.

You tell us End of July - 21st-24th. In fact, yes, I'm pretty sure it's the first week of the school holidays, although I suppose individual schools may differ a bit. Cool
