*rips tape from mouth* WOOO!! I'm so excited we can talk about this now!
So. This is: DFC presents - The Phoenix. It will be very much the same familiar style and presentation of comic as before: a weekly aimed at a similar audience of 8 - 12 (though as we saw last time, anyone and everyone should enjoy something inside!) It aims to launch First Quarter 2012. DFC (David Fickling Comics) is its own company now, with its own new sparkly office. Once again we have The Lovely Ben Sharpe and The Wonderful Will Fickling at the helm. David himself is not directly involved this time. It is no longer a part of Random House and has its own funding. We had the rug ripped out from under us last time, and rest assured it will not happen again. As a further note: The DFC Library is also a separate entity and, like The Phoenix, sits independantly. Perhaps we can consider them cousins or siblings...? ^_^ No holding page on the internets as of yet, the old DFC page redirects to David Fickling Books... but I'm sure we'll get one soon, and will link here when we do! For now, GET EXCITED FOR THE PHOENIX! And spread the word! Please give all your support to this comic! Back British comics - invest in them! They are part of your future!...especially if you want to work for them... gotta give a little to get something back, eh. |

SUCH amazing news ^__^ *dances*
It's back, it has a plan, it has funding and it will be AWESOME. The Phoenix is something new and exciting for all of us ![]() British comics are about to E.X.P.L.O.D.E ![]() Randomly: Just to respond to some of the news articles out there so far - this is all so new that no creators are signed up just yet; including myself, haha. Obviously I really hope I get to do something for the Phoenix, but no one's contracted at this stage, contrary to the rumour mill ![]()

I'm super excited about this already, even if I'm dirt broke I'll be subscribing. There was nothing I loved more then getting a shiny new comic issue through my post every Friday, cant wait to have that excitement again

Uwah, excellent news! I'm with Mimi on this one, I am sad that I missed out on being able to support the original DFC publication so I'll be in full support of The Pheonix!

I hope it's on paper!
"Has funding" suggests "has adverts" (but would also imply "will be in shops")... but I don't particularly care about that. Don't forget Strip Magazine will hopefully be starting this year too! British comics are back! actualresultsmayvary. |

It will absolutely be on paper, haha
![]() the most mind-meltingly amazing thing about the Phoenix is in the funding actually....the funding this time is private, so not reliant on a larger company, and much of apparently it came from the parents of DFC readers!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Isn't that just enough to make you cry with joy? It's a true show of support and defiance...and it makes me feel quite choked up to think of it. Talk about a work of heart.

Hmm, in another bizarre parallel with a certain ornithological 1950's comic, many parents complained about how it had changed in the 60's, and some tried to help start a new "high minded" comic called Lightining. But that never came off
hopefully this new venture does better! |
