Pinax's Stuff
Stray sketch that went too far when I was sketching my mango. Supposed to be a quick one, but ended up not so quick after all ... (argh, I'm sloow)

This is well beyond a sketch - it's seriously shiny! Really, really nice work!

Super bad. Nice muted palette and the added hints of strong red go a long way. Impressive line work all round. Shit, gotta watch you now, so post more!
Edit: Forgot to mention that the background is nice a subtle too.

That's thoroughly impressive! Was it drawn in Paint Tool Sai?

Finishing in PS, but everything else is in Alias Sketchbook Pro. Ever since I got the software for free from a Learning Maya book borrowed from library :P, it has been my paper+pencil replacement.

Thanks Yakumo
This got me in the mood of making new Miku illustration, this time a more ambitious one. Somehow when I'm thinking of doing something ambitious, odds of it ending up in failure or unfinished state raise ten folds so wish me luck :P Miku's attitude this time is inspired from the illustration by redjuice for The World is Mine (the black-red checker one) --> anyway it's becoming a figure by GSC.
I'll be posting WIP images as I go, hopefully I can get comments from you pros out there to improve my workflow. And so, here goes the first two ugly side of my work:
The first is my ... err ... blocking out of composition, some kind of gesture & proportion guideline, perspective, mirror check, etc. Damn messy, basically I used large brush (to block and to not over-detailing), erase, and move around stuff until satisfied. If this were traditional, I'd probably use gray copic/prismacolor marker. Btw the 1st illustration didn't have this phase.
Second is the lining (sadly only the face so far, I feel so slow) and the underlying super messy sketch which has gone through multitude of cut-paste-erase and even liquify filter in PS. You can see my original hand work is quite ugly ... I feel like I need to do some speed sketching training soon X0 ... Some parts don't feel quite right yet but I'll just fix it later. Just realized the right pinky disappear! Must've been erased while I was moving the glass ... XP

Yay Miku! Nice work, Pinax
I am wearing my leekspin Hatsune Miku shirt today too! (It's from http://www.jbox.com )
Also there is a SD forum Miku-centric thread here.

At last the lining for Miku is done (except the small frills/lace), next is the props and bg ...

Did it in SketchBook Pro, theoritically should be the same in PS. Well, I tried it in PS, slightly more difficult and the lines tend to make facets even though smoothing is already on. PS got paths though ...
Buuut the ugly truth lies in my left hand which is on standby on Ctrl and z, and perhaps right hand too, stroking xx times for a single line .... kind of time consuming but I think I got faster (or was it the time that flew faster?).
Probably faster to do in MS, but too lazy to switch yet I don't like the stroking feel. I saw that PaintTool Sai Vennox mentioned has quite an impressive vector based lining, maybe I should try sometimes.
Laura: it seems the same thread is listed down there on similar threads ... since you mentioned it, maybe I'll go reply and revive the thread later

YES! So glad to find I'm not the only one who does this.
As a PS user I also find the 'softening' of lines an issue. Sometimes advantageous sometimes not. It's great finding out others discoveries with different programs.
Your artwork's so striking and shows as much creative flair as your manga. My eyes are burnt by pretty.

Holy smokes, are you based in the UK, Pinax? If you are, then I'm surprised your work hasn't been published anywhere before.
