sweatdrop Exciting News from Sweatdrop central ^_^

STOP PRESS!!!!

It’s been a very busy year for Sweatdrop with many new releases, new members and some exciting projects underway –
One of which we can now officially announce!
Sweatdrop are proud to announce their involvement in the following event:

The Artists & Illustrators Exhibition 2005.
July 21st - 24th

For those who don’t know of the exhibition, this is a large event which last year attracted over 14,000 visitors to London’s Business Design Centre.
As you can see, it’s an event spread over four days and will be wall to wall with artists, manufacturers, publishers and creativity! The exhibitors vary broadly across a whole range of genres and styles, and the event is always keen to introduce new and innovative art styles to the exhibition.

So where does Sweatdrop come in?

This is a very exciting time for Anime and Manga themed art in the UK, with its influence being felt now more than ever in the mainstream art world. More and more people want to know about this wonderful medium and how they can create the style. Sweatdrop Studios will be exhibiting and selling at the event, but also will be providing workshops, seminars and larger ‘conventions’; The latter being 4 x 90 minute presentations covering aspects of Manga-styled art and its creation.

The following Manga-themed presentations will be on offer over the 4 days:

Conventions:
· Day 1 – Manga – A history and overview of the Japanese Art form
· Day 2 – Manga – Creating the style #1
· Day 3 – Manga – Creating the style #2
· Day 4 – Manga – Sequential Art

Workshops:
· Kids workshop – hands-on workshop for younger artists
· Drawing a character – basic and hands-on guide to creating and drawing anime style characters
· 1 Page comic-drawing session – we’ll walk you through creating a single page comic

Demos:
· Seminar – preparing and printing comics
· Inking – demonstrating the power to change a piece of artwork through the use of inking techniques

Sweatdrop are immensely proud to be representing the UK Manga community at this event and we really hope that many of you will join us there! This is our chance as a community to show the outside world just how varied, powerful and emotive an art style this is. The more manufacturers realise how popular the medium is in the UK, the more they will cater for it! There are so many talented manga artists in the UK now, so if you’re one of them or an enthusiast of the style, why not come along? Maybe take part in the workshops, pick up some high quality art materials direct from the manufacturers (Letraset are just one of the brand names in attendance!) or maybe just wander around the event and absorb the sheer variety of artists and illustrators in the UK.
Either way, it looks set to be a big event and we’d love to see you there!

Ticket prices are estimated to be:
£11 on door
£9.50 pre-booking online
We’ll offer up more detailed information as soon as we know it!

- EXTRA NOTE
For those of you attending the Tokonatsu festival this summer, although the weekend is the same, you'll be glad to know that the exhibition also runs on the thursday before the con, so no need to miss out on the fun of Tokonatsu! And remember that Sweatdrop will also be in attendence at the festival. ^_^

The Artists and Illustrators exhibition relates directly to the Artists and Illustrators magazine - check it out here. Magazine well worth reading for anyone with a tipple for drawing.

Also, dig the main coverline on the current issue. UK manga art is beginning to merge into the manstream :-D

Ah-ha, cool. Although, I bought a copy of A&I A while back and was highly disappointed because I thought it was, well, to use a not-so-rude word; rubbish @_@; I feel really evil now for saying that @_@;

But maybe the latest issue will be worth picking up >D

THANKS
We will have a little more information on the different workshops available tomorrow. As for the age-range, we're aiming at children from 8-12, but the content should accomodate older and younger children also.

Thanks if you can help

IF i do go to them.. it says i can bring a friend along for free, is that true, if then if i go to all of them (if the prices above are right it comes to £120.00) then does that mean i can bring my friend along to all of them?
if then nevermind
i probably will go to all of them

Is the pre-bookings on the web or something, or are all the pricings changed from the books prices (see above)?

It also says

Sorry for the delayed reply. I think you're correct about the prices of the conventions and workshops. It's not clear whether there's a discount for pre-booking, but we'll find out precisely closer to the time.

I'm afraid that because we only make comics in our spare time, we don't really have anything we could offer as work experience. However, if you want to learn about making comics, you'd learn more by drawing and printing your own than you would doing inking for someone else.
